Service Description
In June of 2018, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) issued guidance for all nurses from prelicensure to RN to advanced practice regarding medical marijuana. Our workshop for nurses in Missouri will walk you through the Six Principles of Essential Knowledge outlined in the NCBSN's essential guidelines for nurses to better equip you for your day-to-day encounter with cannabis patients. By the end of the two-hour session, you will have gained: 1. A working knowledge of the current state of legalization of medical and recreational cannabis use. 2. A working knowledge of your jurisdiction's MMP (medical marijuana program). 3. An understanding of the endocannabinoid system, cannabinoid receptors, cannabinoids, and the interactions between them. 4. An understanding of cannabis pharmacology and the research associated with the medical use of cannabis. 5. The ability to identify the safety considerations for patient use of cannabis. 6. An understanding of cannabis that allows you to approach the patient without judgment regarding the patient's choice of treatment or preferences in managing pain and other distressing symptoms.
